DC PAWS Rescue in Washington, DC is coming together in song to support an adoptable cat in need of a leg up.
Fat Amy is a snuggly and sweet four year old cat, taken in by DC PAWS through a shelter partner relationship the rescue has with Pickens County Animal Control and volunteers at All Dogs of Pickens Transport (ADOPT) in South Carolina.
DC PAWS Director Kate Viar reports, “When we rescued her, she had a very odd gait and hopped like a bunny. In fact, she didn’t like to walk much at all, but could do so and had no issues jumping onto the bed or climbing. She much preferred to flop down for tummy rubs. A visit to the orthopedist revealed that Fat Amy needed bi-lateral ACL/patella surgery in her back legs. The surgeon was optimistic that the surgery will be a success, and help her get around a bit better. The funny thing is, even with two torn ACLs, she gets around just fine! But the surgery was recommended to slow down the progression of arthritis and prevent her condition from becoming painful.”
In support of helping Amy get healthy on the path to her forever home and improving her quality of life before and after adoption, DC PAWS will cover the cost of her surgery and get her through the initial recovery and rehab, which will cost $3,500. The rescue has already raised about 1/3 of this with a t-shirt fundraiser, and is working hard to cover the rest. This Saturday, August 15, Mackey’s Public House and District Karaoke are partnering with DC PAWS to help cover her medical costs.

Additional donations will get your friends on the mic or allow you to opt out of singing, and raffle prizes will include a basket containing a certificate from Debra Stanton of Ddesigns Pet Portraits by Deb and other items for pet lovers.
