DC PAWS adoptable Fat Amy is sweet, snuggly, good-natured and a whole lot of fun. This 4-year old cat is one of DC PAWS’ first official rescues from Pickens County, South Carolina. Her namesake comes from the confident and upbeat demeanor and sass she shares with the character of Pitch Perfect fame (and okay, a little bit because we’re working on helping her slim down some).

Amy has been in foster care with us for a few months now, and gets along nicely with humans and animals alike (check her out with her canine foster brother, who she happily employs as her grooming assistant for the day). After some time in our care, Amy’s foster noticed what appeared to be a consistent limp in her step, and while she could navigate stairs and jump, she chose to lay down most of the time. It became clear that she wasn’t just rehearsing her mermaid dance, and so we took her to the vet. An exam revealed she has ligament tears in both her hind legs and onset of arthritis. Although otherwise healthy, the only way to prevent the arthritis from progressing more rapidly and helping Amy walk without pain is surgery, which will cost about $2,600.

We are trying to raise the funds needed to cover Amy’s surgical costs by selling DC PAWS t-shirts. Our first piece of DC PAWS gear was designed by our volunteers and is pictured below.
